Wellbeing

At Campbell Primary School, the health and wellbeing of our students, staff and overall school community is of upmost importance.

Embedded within our Business Plan, wellbeing is a key priority area for our teaching and learning programs, as well as the development and maintenance of the school’s culture.

Teachers programing and reporting aligns to West Australian Curriculum requirements for Personal, Social and Community Health. Within this they teach 3 sub-contexts including:

  • Being Healthy, Safe and Active
  • Communicating & Interacting for Health & Wellbeing
  • Contributing to Healthy & Active Communities

Campbell Primary School operates under the Primary Be You (formerly KidsMatter) framework which involves four core competencies including;

  • Positive school community
  • Social and emotional learning
  • Working with parents and carers
  • Helping children with mental health difficulties

As part of our involvement in this program, all staff have received specific training aligned with the four core components and an Action Team regularly meet to analyse survey results, discuss direction and ensure school wellbeing remains a priority. Teachers and parents also have access to useful online resources, such as helpful information sheets about common health issues students may experience.

Our social emotional program, Highway Heroes, is a whole school approach that operates on the premise that students are all travelling along different social, emotional and learning pathways in life. Along the way there may be bumps or hazards but they are taught about tools they can engage to assist them to be resilient and persistent individuals. Four key modules are taught to students in a two year cycle including ‘Sticking Up 4 Me, Connecting 4 Friendships, Tricks 4 Getting Things Done and Strategies 4 Managing Me’.

To further support students to understand they have the right to feel safe at all times, all year levels complete developmentally appropriate teaching and learning programs about Protective Behaviours.  The school also endeavours to form responsible and safe online citizens by emphasising online cyber safe practises. Upon entering Year 5, all students complete the comprehensive E-Smart Digital Licence. The school virtues of Respect, Responsibility and Friendliness are also heavily embedded in the school culture.

Furthermore, throughout the year numerous health-related calendar events are recognised such as Harmony Day, The Great Vegie Crunch and RUOK? Day.
