Around the Classrooms – Visual Arts

Recently our H.A.S.S committee was successful in obtaining a grant through the government’s ‘Saluting Their Service’ program.

In Term our students have took on a project designed to offer all students the opportunity to discover meaningful ties to World War 1 and World War II, by making two small ceramic poppies during their Visual Arts lessons.

One of the students’ poppies will contribute to the construction of permanent wreaths to be displayed at ceremonies such as Anzac and Remembrance Day, the other poppy is to be taken home in the form of a brooch or a magnet for their own remembrance.

In addition to individual poppies, some larger flowers have been created to add to the school’s garden beside our flagpoles and previously obtained rust art soldiers.

We look forward to unveiling our new wreaths during this year’s Remembrance Day commemoration. In the meantime, we hope you enjoy these photographs of our students creating their wonderful poppies.
