Dear Parents/Carers,
Welcome back to what is shaping up to be a busy term. Students have settled very well back into class and are demonstrating high levels of independence and self-organisation. Thank you for your continued support of the measures we have in place to support all students as we continue to work through the Covid-19 situation. It is greatly appreciated. The school is continuing to reinforce good hygiene practices and physical distancing of adults, along with increased daily cleaning regimes, access to hand sanitiser and teaching of coughing/sneezing etiquette.
For many families, this situation has resulted in uncertainty and hardship. We reflect on the increased measures in place on the east coast of Australia and give our sympathy to those families who are affected. Our thoughts are with you. The school will continue to support you and your families throughout this time. Remember that our school chaplain Kasorn Campbell is available on Thursdays and Fridays and can work with individuals and families as required.
Our students continually reflect on our core values of kindness, resiliency and respect and these values are explicitly taught throughout the school. It is wonderful to see students embracing these values and applying them to their everyday thoughts and actions. A lovely surprise over the past week has been the many supportive comments left on the school’s Facebook page for Principal’s Day last Friday. Staff have been touched by your expressions of gratitude and support. Campbell Primary School is indeed a special place for all.
The school welcomes the appointment of Miss Paige Goodsell, who joins the executive team as an Assistant Principal. There have been some changes in executive responsibilities with Miss Goodsell assuming responsibility for Kindergarten, Pre-primary, Year 1 and Year 2 students. She is looking forward to meeting both students and families in the coming weeks.
We also welcome the return of Ms. Brittni Edwards. Ms. Edwards is working to support a number of classes throughout the week.
The school has continued to hold assemblies via WebEx during this time and student councillors have taken very active roles as presenters. Students have been most enthusiastic about this mode of presentation and look forward to both the assembly and presentation of merit certificates following it. I would like to thank our hard working student councillors for the work that they do each and every week to support assemblies and playground activities. They are constantly striving to improve the school and play areas for everyone.
New play equipment has been ordered for the Year 2 grassed area outside LA 23 and LA 24 and we are hopeful that this will be installed before the end of term. You will have noticed the car park changes, with new kerbing and asphalt in place. The school is in the early stages of planning for a “Kiss and Drive “area to be installed adjacent to the Kindergarten and basketball area of the car park. This should facilitate improved traffic movement at peak times.
The Campbell Primary School P and C continue to work very hard behind the scenes to support all Campbell students. This year has been particularly challenging for them, as they have not been able to run many of the fund raising activities that they would normally do, to raise funds for our school.
There will be a whole school P and C fundraising day on Friday 28 August 2020. Students are encouraged to take part and provide a gold coin donation for the P and C on that day. Details will be published later this week. As restrictions further ease, the P and C will be looking at further ways to support the school.
This Friday 14 August 2020 is a Professional Learning Day for all staff. Students do not attend school on this day. Staff will be continuing to upskill in areas that strongly align with our current business plan. They will be closely examining the general capabilities and cross curriculum priorities to ensure that these are being used as active learning streams for all. Staff will also be working with Harrisdale PS to further develop their understanding and implementation of ICT as a key educational tool.
Thank you to Maxine Wylie who has successfully applied for a grant to further support our school’s work around the Aboriginal Cultural Standards Framework. Students will be attending an incursion based on the Aboriginal seasons and traditional fishing techniques in Week 7.
Anne Farrell (Art Specialist) also has a special poppy remembrance project underway. This should be completed and on display by November.
2021 Enrolments
The school has now commenced planning for the 2021 school year. To enable accurate planning for classes in 2021, parents of our 2020 Kindergarten to Year 5 students who will not be returning to Campbell PS in 2021, are asked to advise the school as soon as possible via the school’s email Campbell.PS@education.wa.edu.au. Please also indicate the school that your child/ren will be attending in 2021.
Thank you to those parents of our current kindergarten students who have enrolled their child in for Pre-primary for 2021. If you have not already done so, please contact the school administration immediately to ensure that your child has a place in Pre-primary for 2021.
